Being a refugee in Hong Kong can be a difficult and challenging experience. With limited access to resources, legal protections, and support systems, refugees face numerous obstacles that make it hard to rebuild their lives There struggles for basic rights, including healthcare, education, and employment, leading to a sense of uncertainty and vulnerability.
In cricket, Help Together has been instrumental in fostering a sense of community and camaraderie among players from different backgrounds, cultures, and skill levels. By bringing people together in their shared love of, Help Together has helped to break down barriers and build bridges between people who might have never crossed paths. This has resulted in a more inclusive and diverse cricket community, where everyone is welcome, supported, and valued.
Through cricket, players have united to form a resilient and tight-knit community. The team’s success on the field means a lot more than just victory; it sheds light on their struggles as refugees, raises awareness of their situation, and paves the way for progress and positive change. Their unwavering commitment to their sport is a testament to their unbreakable spirit.
Asian United CC (AUCCHK) was established in October 2018 by Franklin Paul Das, Gurinder Preet Singh & Faizan Sher Niazi. The club is a social cricket club with a mission to empower people from disadvantaged refugee and asylum seeker communities by offering them opportunities to play cricket. AUCCHK has grown from a team of 3 players to more than 20 members establishing itself as Hong Kong’s first-ever Refugee / Asylum Seeker (RAS) Cricket Team.
Despite facing several challenges such as lack of equipment and uncertain futures, the team was able to achieve success through sheer determination and hard work. Their commitment to overcoming obstacles is a testament to their resilience and can-do attitude. The players’ unyielding spirit is an inspiration to all who witness their remarkable journey towards success.
Thanks to their unyielding hard work and dedication, the able to reach the finals in their third year of playing cricket. Their weekly two-hour training sessions and focus on improving their cricket skills has paid off in countless ways, and their commitment to constant development and learning continues to lead them to success in their sport.
We believes in the future of Hong Kong’s asylum seekers, and we recognize our responsibility them. Our vision is to unite all asylum seekers who wish to play and positively utilize their time and talent. In accordance with Hong Kong Law, asylum seekers cannot work, which can often lead to depression and a sense of helplessness. Through cricket, we hope to lift their spirits, provide them with joy and purpose, and showcase their tremendous talents to the world.
Our organization has successfully completed its third cycle of team selection, and we are thrilled have more than 25 talented and dedicated players on our team. Our ultimate goal is to continue growing our cricket community and increasing the number of players on our team. We are committed to building a sustainable model that benefits not only our players but their families and fans as well. We are grateful to our supporters, who have helped us reach crucial milestone. We are also pleased announce that Hong Kong Kongers have joined our team, and they are the backbone of our success.
In the HK Challenge League Division 3, our team has had a remarkable season, winning 7 out of 8 matches and securing the champion title by a whopping 14 points. We’ve continued to achieve success, with a runner-up position in Division 2 and in Division 1. In addition to our accomplishments on the field, we are proud to help a player recover from depression and addiction, exemplifying the importance of teamwork and support. Our passion for cricket has brought us together, making us stronger and more determined to overcome any obstacle.
